POKER TOURNAMENT NEWS

Freeroll casino poker tournaments offer poker players the chance to win hundreds, even thousands of dollars, while not risking a dime of their own bankroll. Not only are they usually exciting Texas Hold'em tournament style events, they represent one of the best ways to build a beginner's poker bankroll. Possibly the most interesting advantage of freerolls is the fact that you can practice different tournament theories and strategies without the overwhelming pressure of finishing in the money to recoup your buy in. Fred Parker (fparker1) has set about testing many different theories in freeroll tournaments and has been gracious enough to chronicle his experiences in our poker forums.
We have organized these articles so that any poker player, who desires to place in the money in these wild online freeroll tournaments on a more consistent basis, can benefit from Fred's strategies. If you put Fred's theories to use, please share your successes, failures and suggestions in our poker result forums. While practically every online poker room offers some type of freeroll tournament, some of the best freeroll opportunities can be found at Royal Vegas Poker. There are four $1000 freerolls every day between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. EST., and a $200 freeroll at 7 a.m. for those early bird poker players.
An interesting development recently shows the majority of World Series of Poker tournament players now earn their entry to the event through online qualifying tournaments.  The multi-table tournament represents the most popular and definitely most televised style of poker play.  The World Series of Poker and the World Poker Tour, among many others come immediately to mind.  Chris Moneymaker (2003) and Greg Raymer (2004) both earned their buy inn’s to the World Series of Poker at Poker Stars and went on to win millions of dollars, and now represent Poker Stars to the world!  The structure of these tournaments is quite simple.  For a “buy in,” or set amount, players are entered into the tournament.
Every player is then given the same number of chips and seated at as many tables as are necessary, and the elimination begins. When a player “busts out,” he leaves his seat, and remaining players are moved around to ensure equal numbers at each table.  As you can imagine, this takes hours and even days to complete large multi-table tournaments. Only the top few finishers will earn money.  If the tourney pays top 10 finishers and you finish #11, tough luck.  For many players who have had great success in regular ring games, the multi-table tournament is a cruel effigy of failure.  This can be directly traced to the fact that most players do not grasp the changes needed from their ring game style to a tournament style.

Unfortunately for many of us, success in ring game poker doesn't automatically bleed over into success in poker tournament play. There are many obvious similarities (after all, we're playing the same games...right?), but due to their ever-changing structure, online poker tournaments news require us to vary our play quite a bit in order to be successful. Of course, there are many aspects of ring game poker that can be applied to poker tournament strategy (make sure you're skilled at your game of choice - see our Texas Holdem card Strategy and 4 Card Stud Strategy sections for more info).
